Our Mission Statement
As a provider of child care, the mission of Milestone Montessori School is to provide a safe, nurturing, and aesthetically pleasing environment where your child will learn from our Montessori certified head teachers.
Dr. Maria Montessori created the Montessori Method: an alternative style of teaching that is immensely beneficial to children worldwide. Dr. Montessori believed children should learn at their own pace, and discover their own education while in a socially and academically enriched environment, as they become independent and confident individuals.
What is the Montessori Method?
The Montessori Method is a specific learning triad: child, teacher, and classroom. The classroom calls to the child through small furniture and easily reached shelves, everything at their fingertips. These shelves are carefully arranged with materials that are: made for small hands, colorful, and aesthetically alluring. These materials are the child's first steps to learning the difference between play and work. Play time is given during free time, but these materials are clearly their work. While children choose their work from around the classroom and seat themselves they are learning communication skills and strengthening their verbal intelligence. Children of various age groups work cooperatively together so the youngest to the oldest members work at their own pace. Milestone has an independent program that is tailored to each child.
Dr. Montessori observed that children are more motivated to learn when working on something of the own choosing. A Montessori student may choose his/her focus of learning on any given day, but his/her decision is limited by the materials and activities in each area of the curriculum that his/her teacher has prepared and presented to him or her.
Milestones are achieved every day due to the hard work and dedication of our Montessori certified teachers. Our teachers observe their students during work time which is uninterrupted so the child remains focused. The teachers prepare and demonstrate the work on the shelves to the students. As the teacher observes they can determine each child's progress and log it to their own curriculum. The teacher's presence instills a reasonable degree of order where it is supposed to be but the teacher is not a single point of information. The Milestone teachers create a community atmosphere that is an extension of home; while teaching children to care for themselves, friends, classroom, and their environment. All of our staff has been fingerprinted and background checked. We follow state requirements for an appropriate child to staff ratio and are pediatric first aid/CPR/AED certified. Our classrooms are multi-aged so the children at various stages of development learn from and with each other. Our program is designed to fit each child instead of making each child fit the program. Here at Milestone Montessori School we know how important it is for you to feel confident about the type of socialization and education you choose for your child.
